Charged Meals Policy
| Procedures for handling charged meals in elementary and secondary schools are developed for the purpose of dealing with this situation on a consistent basis so the student “customer” will not be embarrassed or humiliated.
“Charged meals” are defined as meals which cannot be properly accounted for because the student has no money.
- Students may charge up to $10.00 in meals.
- Notification through Parent Link will be used to notify parents of accounts balances with less than $10.00 weekly.
- Any child on paid or reduced status with a negative $10.00 balance will be served an alternate meal until the balance is paid in full unless arrangements have been made with the food service director and/or food service manager to make installment payments.
- Students on free meal status with a negative balance always receive a regular meal.
- All students with a negative balance can not buy any thing extra (a la carte items).

LunchBox Online - Online Prepayment Information
|
The School District of Pickens County has partnered with LunchBox, our Student Nutrition Services software program, so that families can have direct access to their children’s cafeteria accounts.
All schools are now open and have access to online payment options! You will find directions about LunchBox online payment options on their websites.

By logging in through our website and setting up a LunchBox account, you can see what and when your children have been eating, see what their current balances are, establish a reoccurring payment, set spending limits and make notes for the cafeteria manager. Payment history for the year is available with the click of the mouse.
The program also offers families the convenience of depositing funds into a child's LunchBox account. This option is possible because of a third party service provider called MySchoolBucks. It is similar to other online banking services and charges nominal fees for processing your deposits. The service also lets you charge meal payments to your credit card.
Lunchbox Online will help eliminate last minute check writing hassles, improve efficiency, and help cut costs for both you and the school district. Online payments will help eliminate the worry that your children could lose or forget the money intended for meals or that it might be spent on other non-school related items.

How do you use LunchBox Online?
To use the LunchBox Online feature, you must create an online account with MySchoolBucks. Families set up and maintain their own logins, passwords, and payment preferences. Account information is retained in a password-protected file. You’ll need an Internet connection with Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, a valid e-mail address and your student’s date of birth.

National School Lunch Program

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. The program was established under the National School Lunch Act, signed by President Harry Truman in 1946. |

Nutritional Requirements
School lunches must meet the applicable recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommend that no more than 30 percent of calories come from fat and less than 10 percent from saturated fat. Regulations also establish a standard for school lunches to provide one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories. School lunches must meet federal requirements, but decisions about specific foods to serve and their preparation are made locally.
